Project Overview
Our objective was to honor the soul of a historic 1912 Craftsman home while reimagining it for luxurious, modern living. The four-year project involved a meticulous restoration that balanced architectural preservation with a comprehensive update. Lodge & Lantern guided the collaboration, ensuring every detail – from the foundational engineering to the final bespoke fixture, contributed to a seamless blend of past and present. Our role was to transform this piece of history into a functional, breathtaking sanctuary for a modern family.
Key Accomplishments
Restored and Enhanced Woodwork: We honored the home's Craftsman heritage by restoring its original character. We designed bespoke fir ceilings and installed custom-aged maple hardwood floors to create a warm, cohesive feel that complements the classic architecture.
Integrated Modern Luxury: We seamlessly introduced state-of-the-art amenities without compromising the home's historic integrity. A four-story elevator, fully integrated smart home systems, and a professional-grade kitchen with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances were artfully concealed within the classic design.
Created Spa-Inspired Retreats: The bathrooms were transformed into luxurious sanctuaries featuring elegant marble, custom tile, and high-end Waterworks fixtures. We designed and implemented a full spa space, complete with a steam room and rainfall shower, to provide an in-home wellness escape.
Designed Bespoke Living Spaces: We expanded the home’s functionality with the addition of a temperature-controlled wine room for over 4,000 bottles and a grand ballroom complete with a custom bar. European-sourced brass lighting and specialty fixtures were selected to illuminate these spaces with a warm, inviting glow.
Results and Impact
The result is a one-of-a-kind residence that stands as a masterpiece of historical preservation and contemporary opulence. The project successfully doubled the home's functional living space while reviving its architectural soul. The final design delivers a timeless environment that feels both grand and deeply personal, preserving a piece of Santa Monica's history while providing a beautiful, highly functional home for generations to come.
